Mrs. Hendry’s Newsletter, September 24, 2017
Crazy to think that we’re already winding down on our first month of school! Time flies when you’re having fun. The kids are getting in to the swing of things, and routines are being established. This enables our time together to become more relaxed and fun.
In the next two weeks we will continue our work with the alphabet focusing on the letter Ee and Dd. We are always working on writing our name on our work so that it becomes a habit, and gets better and better with time. The goal is to send them off to Kindergarten with legible handwriting. We all want to get the credit for our work! I pull my handwriting Curriculum from Learning Without Tears. You can find this online if you wish to support what I am teaching in class. Not only do I want the kids to recognize all the letters in the alphabet, but also to learn the correct way to form our letters. I spend quite a bit of time watching the students trace while making sure they are tracing correctly.
As it has become fall, we will be learning about apples and fall leaves. We will discuss how an apple grows from just a small seed and talk about the sequence of events that leads up to an apple that then falls to the ground etc. We will also learn about the leaves on the trees and why they change color this time of year and then fall to the ground. Hopefully we will be able to go out on the school grounds for a leaf hunt!
I will be doing small evaluations on the kids the first week or so of October. These are just to see where the kids are this early in the year, and to adjust curriculum accordingly.
